SERVING

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10

We consider serving the Lord a privilege and would like to make it as smooth as possible for you to serve Him here at Calvary Chapel Craig. Here are a few answers to the most frequently asked questions for anyone who is new to Calvary Chapel.

1.

HOW CAN I START SERVING?

We ask that you would attend Calvary Chapel Craig regularly for 6 months before filling out an application to serve. This not only helps you know that Calvary is your church home, but also allows us time to get to know you. We then ask that you also listen to the servant's class before meeting with the pastor as your application is processed.

2.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY?

After you apply, your application will be reviewed and processed. You will hear from us regarding details and training. Some teams will require a background check and additional interview processes before training can be scheduled. Once you have completed training and servant's class you will be scheduled to serve!

3.

WHEN SERVING, CAN I ALSO ATTEND THE SERVICE?

We want you to be fully present while serving and fully present while attending! This means we prefer you would serve at a service gathering and attend another service gathering.

4.

HOW OFTEN CAN I SERVE?

Each Team operates on a rotation dependent on the immediate needs. We want to help you to serve as often as you can and will discuss your availability along with Team needs during one of your application processing meetings.

We encourage you to start with the Discipleship list and Servant resources in the Education section on how to be a faithful servant of the Lord. Check out the current openings below.

Some final thoughts on Biblical service.

“…the Bible didn't speak much about volunteers but it spoke a lot about servants. Volunteers are great but not as good as servants.

A volunteer is a person who sees a cause that resonates with them, so they want to get involved because it makes them feel good. Most guys who volunteer for beach cleanup like to do it because there are lots of girls with tiny bathing suits also picking up trash. Some volunteers get involved because they like the person who is in charge of the cause. But because a volunteer is doing that because they want to for whatever reason, if something better comes along, they just won't show up like they said they would.

So, volunteers do things often for a good reason or for a selfish reason, but if something better comes along, and they won't show up.

A servant is different than a volunteer. A servant may not particularly like the cause and may not even really care for the leader. But my experience is, that a servant that knows the Lord, is doing what he does because it's something that God wants him to do. A servant shows up to do his responsibility even if there's a better event or activity that seems like more fun. He does it because he's made that commitment to the Lord not for man, nor for his personal enjoyment.” Pastor Alan Lauer
